Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher will be back in the Steel City this Spring. Commercial Torsion Springs

The Hall of Fame coach and Pittsburgh native will add to his expansive accomplishments when he is given an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Duquesne University.

Cowher is also slated to address graduates at Duquesne's spring commencement ceremony. Catherine Ryan, a Duquesne Alumna, will also receive an honorary doctorate.

“It’s fitting that Catharine Ryan and Bill Cowher will be on the stage together as two figures who have done enormous good for our city and region,” President Ken Gormley said in a statement. “Bill Cowher achieved national renown as a coach who led the Steelers to their fifth Super Bowl championship and for his advocacy of cancer awareness."

Cowher's father, Laird Cowher, attended Duquesne.

Cowher led the black and gold to eight division titles and to the postseason during 10 of the 14 years he coached. The only Steelers coach ever to be born in Pittsburgh, Cowher was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.

The commencement ceremony is on May 5.
