A ribbon-cutting event last Friday celebrated the grand opening of two of Shelton's newest businesses: Custom Sleep Technology (CST) and Whitney Cabinet Painting. Community leaders, business owners, friends, and family packed into the firms' showrooms, both located in the Conti Building, 132 West Canal Street in Shelton.

Bill Purcell, President of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce led the event. Town officials attended the grand opening and said a few words in support of the new business opening in Shelton.

Shelton's President of the Board of Alderman John Anglace said, "When your heart is into something, and you're starting a business, it just becomes a wonderful thing to happen, and most people that come to Shelton are successful. It takes a lot of hard work and effort, and from what I see, you're only projecting from here."

"What a great thing," said Shelton's Vice President, Board of Alderman Eric McPherson. "This is an attraction, people are coming to Shelton because they see we're creative, we have ingenuity and the entrepreneurial spirit. We're fortunate and excited to have these new businesses here."

In introducing Bob Zukowski, co-owner of Custom Sleep Technology, Purcell said, "this is a labor of love to commit to this space, and create not only a showroom but also a fabrication facility. Their state-of-the-art customized mattresses are the 'last mattress you will ever buy,' which is their mantra."

Custom Sleep Technology creates affordable, one-of-a-kind personalized mattresses. With a patented sleep surface design, CST develops the perfect, life-long mattress to address the unique sleep needs of every individual. The firm also makes pillows and mattress toppers.

"We're excited to be here," said Zukowski, "I started with a retail space in Shelton 13 years ago and then moved to Westport and online. John and I decided the best way to do this was to create a beautiful showroom and a fabrication facility and offer this to the public."

"Today we are celebrating the launch of two new businesses that will become significant in our community. For Custom Sleep Technology, this store is start of our plan to not only dramatically improve sleep quality in our area, but also to grow via franchises across New England, the mid-Atlantic and beyond," said Co-Owner John Vester.

The crowd moved next door to visit the Whitney Cabinet Painting showroom.
